Symptoms*
This is an ever-evolving list of symptoms and things one may try to ease them. 
 

Anxiety

Anxiety is a big one. It can make other symptoms seem larger than they are. 

Herbal: 

Passionflower- passionflower is one of my favorite herbs for anti-anxiety You can read a little more about it here. 

Skullcap- 

Valerian- 

 

OTC: 

Other than herbal support, I am not aware of any OTC anxiety help at this time. 

 
Prescription: 

Short term anxiety meds include Valium and Xanax, but you probably already knew that.

Deep Breathing

 

 

Chills

 Herbal: 

Ginger Tea- ginger is warming. 

Cinnamon ginger tea- same reason why ginger tea might help. 

Other: 

a warm blanket

cozy warm clothes

hot bath or shower

hot steam room

 

Depression

Herbal: 

Calamus

 

Diet:  

Eating a healthy diet of mainly vegetables, healthy fats and protein will help. Stay away from processed foods. 

 

Other: 

Exercise- When we are depressed it can be hard to want to do anything at all. If you have a hard time being motivated, ask a friend for help. 

Get outside- Mother earth can be such a great ally. Go get your feet on the earth.

Drug Cravings

Take deep belly breaths

Go for a walk 

Chat with a friend

Check in with yourself- why are you wanting to change the way you feel? what can you do instead? 

Scream into a pillow

Concentration Difficulties

Concentration difficulties might be because you are feeling like shit in other ways as well as the fact that your neurotransmitters are out of whack. One of the best ways to help yourself is to eat a well-balanced diet the help your neurotransmitters find their way back to homeostasis. 

Herbal: 

Bacopa- an ayurvedic herb, this herb helps balance the nervous system, which is going haywire during withdrawal. It is quite bitter so taking it in pill form might be best. 

Asiatic pennywort (gotu kola)- this plant is magical, good for the heart-mind, it might not give you a concentration boost, but it can't hurt. Drink it as a tea with some honey.

Omega 3

B vitamins

Vit. C

Magnesium

Zinc

 

Foods: 

Oats- oats are a superfood they are a nutritional building block for multiple nuerotransmitters. 

Bananas

fermented foods- sauerkraut, yogurt, kombucha, etc. 

dark chocolate

Nutritional Yeast- this lovely condiment is great on toast, popcorn and put in foods. It is a great source of B vitamins. 

 

 

 

Diarrhea 

Herbal: 

Psylium seed husk- this adds a gentle fiber to your system. 

OTC: 

 Immodium- Many people discuss online how immodium acts on your opiate receptors (in your stomach, not in your brain). Immodium is not something you want to take too much of. If you are feeling like you need to take immodium to try and get high, please just don't. 

Other: 

Eat easily digested foods like oatmeal, bananas, and applesauce.

Drink electrolytes- preferably not Gatorade, but will work in a pinch. 

Eat probiotics: yogurt, kombucha, live saurkraut, etc. 

 

Fever

Fevers are usually okay. If you have a fever above 103, it is time to start reducing it. 

OTC: 

Ibuprofen, naproxen, acetaminophen

Other: 

Cupping

 

 

General Restlessness

Herbs:

Other: 

Go for a walk

Epsom salt bath

Herbal: 

Ginger- Ginger candy or Ginger tea

Mint- mint tea, peppermint candy, ginger-mint tea

Yarrow - yarrow tea

Tumeric- This can be taken in a pill or drink it in a lovely glass of Golden Milk. Tumeric needs to be taken with pepper and a fat to make it more bioavialable. 

Triphala- Triphala is an ayurvedic formula that is also used in  Thai medicine. It is a mixture of three powders. You can drink this in a tea or you can take capsules. 

OTC: 

Pepto-Bismol

Kaopectate

Alka-Seltzer

Foods: 

Golden Milk- a beautiful mix of spices, milk (cow or non-dairy), ghee or coconut oil

Bland foods - bananas, oatmeal, white rice, etc. 

Headache

At this point in your life, I am sure you know how to deal with a headache. 

For me, I go cross-eyed when another adult tells me to drink water. However, you might not have thought to drink water because you are feeling like shit. Drink water. It is also okay to take an Aleve. 

 

OTC: 

Ibuprofen

Naproxen (my favorite) 

Acetaminophen

 

 

Insomnia

Insomnia is a biggie. If you get insomnia, it can be crippling. Don't be afraid to get help from your doc if herbs, acupuncture, etc. aren't working. 

 

Herbs:

Skullcap

 

Prescription: 

Ambian

 

Other:

Stop watching TV and looking at a computer screen a couple of hours before bed. Also, put your phone down. I know it is super easy to want to use your phone, but the screen is not going to help your sleep situation.

 

Irritability

You might be an asshole and anger more easily. It is okay. Your loved ones will still love you. 

 

Things that may help: 

Take a bath or shower

get a massage

go for a walk

tell your people to give you extra love and space

If you can meditate, meditate

If you do yoga, do some yoga

Deep breathing

Lethargy

No one wants to feel lethargic. It's the worst.  It almost ranks up there with insomnia. The best antidote for lethargy is a friend with a ton of energy to drag your ass out of the house for a walk, bike ride, etc.

Other:

Put on some music that gets you moving and get moving. Dance, walk, jump, do whatever gets your heart pumping. 

Muscle Aches

Herbs:
